Overview

The “Toyama International Glass Exhibition 2027” will be held at the Toyama Glass Art Museum.
This exhibition is an international open-call triennale established to gather the latest achievements in contemporary glass art from around the world and contribute to the further development of the field. Since its inaugural edition in 2018, the exhibition has been held three times. In the most recent edition in 2024, 785 works were submitted from 50 countries and regions worldwide.
Contemporary glass art traces its origins to the “Studio Glass Movement,” which emerged in the former Czechoslovakia in the 1950s and in the United States in the 1960s, where glass began to be used as a medium for artistic expression. Since then, its sculptural and artistic possibilities have spread globally and, particularly after 2000, diversified rapidly into a dynamic art field filled with limitless creative potential.
It is our hope that this exhibition will open new horizons for contemporary glass art while also serving as an opportunity for Toyama — known as the “City of Glass” — to further establish itself as a global center for glass art.
