By mapping brain activity with EEG recordings Æsa and Tinna set out to interpret emotional states and their physical manifestations. The border between an intangible emotional state and the physical manifestation of EEG activity through vibration and sound manifests itself in a fragile shield. The shield acts as a membrane separating the self from the outside while reflecting an inner reality which often remains invisible.

Here I captured the moment when heated glass begins to move and morph, while retaining vestiges of its original form.

The beauty of our emotions.

This piece represents the shifting path of the sun over time, and the beauty and warmth of natural light. The light of the sun, always bright and warm, is indispensable to life. Every day we take for granted how the sun illuminates us. Suddenly noticing its importance, I feel joy in its warmth.

“Landscape” is a strong interaction with the natural landscape. Natural landscapes which I marked in my mind from my visits in North- East Scotland, the town Lybster. I wanted to investigate glass as a material and as metaphor, and challenging materiality of this substance. I draw from nature and my memory and it is source of form to find a new way of process to create my artwork. I use the gravity process to conceive the texture on my glass. Through slumping process I tried highlight the quality of glass.

The idea is similar as in the previous case. Unlike the previous situation, where the two blocks of asphalt were leaning against sheet glass, in this situation only one block of asphalt was leaning against the edge of sheet glass.

I use the unusual technique of mixed-firing glass and clay in pursuit of expression and forms that emerge through heat. Blending glass and clay to create this technique myself from the materials, I am able to produce glass with a ceramic quality different to that of translucence. This piece Oscillation focuses even more than usual on the robustness achieved by combining glass with clay, and the delicacy of glass. The heat of the kiln causes what was a cold, hard material to turn hot and pliable, creating an organic texture and fired finish, while the morphing wrought by gravity causes movement and cracking, resulting in dynamic forms and a thread-like appearance. I take an instant from the midst of that moment-to-moment modification, giving it form; it strikes me too that this is an experience not unlike the changes that occur in a substance over a long period, as part of a natural cycle.
